Lisa Axel begins her third season as an assistant coach at Metro State in 2008. In addition to assisting with all aspects of the Roadrunner program, Axel serves as the recruiting coordinator and oversees the academic program.

Axel spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons at North Dakota State under head coach Zaundra Bina and was involved in all aspects of the Bison program. Axel served as the interim head coach following the 2005 season.

As a player, Axel starred at Big Ten member Minnesota from 1999-02. She was a three-time academic all-Big Ten selection and the Gophers tallied a 108-32 record during her career. Axel went to the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons and Minnesota won the 2002 Big Ten championship. A libero and defensive specialist, Axel was the only Minnesota player to appear in all 38 matches and 136 games as a 2002 senior.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Axel earned a bachelor's degree in biology. While at Minnesota, she served as a coach with Minnesota Volleyball, Inc., from 2001-03, and served as a counselor and coach at Midwest Volleyball Instructors in 2001.

A native of Buffalo, Minn., Axel is single and resides in Lakewood.
