Midwestern State Ends Metro State's Season At NCAA Tournament, 8-1

CANYON, TEXAS - No. 7-ranked Midwestern State scored six unanswered goals in the first half and went on to defeat No. 9-ranked Metro State, 8-1, in the first round of the men's soccer NCAA Tournament, Thursday afternoon at The Pitch.

Midwestern State led 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the game as Obed Becerra scored off a free kick and Robert Swann convered a penalty kick. It was 6-0 at the half as the Mustangs added two more unassisted goals and a second penalty kick. Metro State's Brad Gorham received a red card in the 29th minute, forcing the Roadrunners to play a man down for most of the game.

Phillip Owen prevented the shutout with an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute off a free kick.

Midwestern State held a 25-8 shots advantage and had 11 of the game's 13 corner kicks.

Metro State ends the season with 16 wins, the most ever for a Roadrunner team. Owen leaves Metro State as the Roadrunners' all-time leader in points (132) and goals (53).

With the win, Midwestern State improves to 17-3-0 overall, while Metro State's season ends at 16-3-3 overall. Midwestern State moves on to Sunday's second round against the winner of No. 1-seed West Texas A&M and No. 4-seed Fort Lewis.
