No. 12 Baseball Hold on for Victory

The No. 12 Metro State baseball team held off New Mexico Highlands, 9-8, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action, Friday in Las Vegas, N.M.

The Roadrunners put five runs on the board in the fourth inning, after starting the inning with two outs. Dakota Nahm walked followed by a single from Troy Spahn to put two men on. Mike Coffey singled up the middle to score Nahm and advance Spahn to second. Matt McConnell and Eric Mansfield followed with singles to score two more. Brennan Brown finished the scoring with a two RBI double to left field.

Metro State added two more runs in the fifth innings after Coffey tripled to center field and scored on an error by NMHU's second baseman. The Cowboys chipped away at the lead scoring a single run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to close the score to 9-8.

Derek Colbert pitched the final two innings for MSCD without allowing a hit. Steven Green (10-1) earned the victory, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing seven runs and nine hits.

Metro State improved to 37-9 overall and 29-4 in the RMAC. The two teams play a doubleheader today beginning at 12 p.m.
