Ast Lifts Colorado School of Mines Over Metro State, 11-4

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. -- Cory Ast allowed just one earned run in eight innings as No. 5-seed Colorado School of Mines defeated No. 2-seed Metro State, 11-4, in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball tournament, Wednesday afternoon at Canyon View Park.

Ast allowed just five hits and two runs, while striking out six to lift the Orediggers. Metro State has now lost seven straight games.

Metro State struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on a Reece Gorman sacrifice fly but Colorado School of Mines scored 10 unanswered runs to take a 10-1 lead after seven innings.

Gorman went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Jake Palmer was 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Roadrunners. Stefan Revielle was 5-for-5 with two RBI for the Orediggers.

Armando Casas took the loss for Metro State, giving up eight earned runs in 4.2 innings, while striking out six and walking four.

With the win, Colorado School of Mines improves to 20-32 overall, while Metro State drops to 38-18 overall. The Orediggers play the winner of No. 3-seed Regis and No. 4-seed Nebraska-Kearney Thursday at 11 a.m., while the Roadrunners play the loser of No. 1-seed Mesa State and No. 6-seed New Mexico Highlands tomorrow at 3 p.m.
