GUNNISON, COLO. -- Metro State's men finished seventh, while the women were eighth at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, Tuesday at Western State.

"For taking such a small team to the conference meet, they did amazing," said Roadrunner head coach Pete Julian. "This was the best overall team performance I've seen. It was a good day for the team."

The Roadrunner men scored 24 points to finish seventh as Adams State won the team title with 255 points. Western State was second (158), while Nebraska-Kearney was third (131.50). On the women's side, Metro State scored 26 points. Adams State won with 246 points, followed by Western State (176) and Nebraska-Kearney (111.50).

Individually, Anthony Luna finished second in the 800 meters with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:51.07. Kyle Simcox was third in the 5000 meters in a time of 16:06.63, while Gabe Luna finished sixth in the 400 meters (49.90).

On the women's side, Taebrooke Rutter was fifth (20:24.67) and Veronica Albo was sixth (20:42.06) in the 5000 meters. Jessica Jenkins ran a time of 5:09.52 to finish sixth, while Chelsea Rutter was eighth in the 1500 meters.

"We had several all-conference performers," said Julian. "We're moving in the right direction. Everyone really exceeded expectations."

The top three finishers earn first team all-RMAC honors, while fourth, fifth and sixth place finishers earn second-team accolades.

The season is over for the Roadrunner teams, although Anthony Luna has qualified for the NCAA Championship in two weeks.
