Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
Fourth Season

Peter Julian begins his fourth season as Metro State's head cross country coach, as well as his third season as head track coach in 2008-09.

Julian and the Roadrunners enjoyed a great deal of success in 2007-08, as Metro State had an individual qualify for all three NCAA championships - cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. As a cross country team, the Metro State men finished sixth in the region, missing the NCAA meet by just one spot for the second consecutive season. However, Anthony Luna qualified as an individual and represented the Roadrunners. In track, Luna qualified for both the indoor and outdoor championships, finishing third in the national indoor meet and second at the outdoor meet, earning two all-America honors.

The 2006 men's cross country team finished sixth at the always challenging NCAA North Central Regional Championship, just one spot shy of qualifying for the national meet in its second season. On the track, Julian coached Todd Tolentino to an eighth-place finish and all-America honors in the 5000 meters in just the first season for the program.

In his first season, Julian led the Roadrunner men to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA North Central Regional Championship meet. It was also the first season for the cross country program at Metro State since the early 1980s.

Prior to arriving at Metro State, Julian was a volunteer assistant coach at RMAC member Regis University in 2004-05 and also at Santa Clara University in 2003-04. In addition, he was the head cross country coach at Denver's Lincoln High School in 1995 and 1996.

Julian has spent over 10 years racing professionally on the track and road circuit. He was a bronze medalist at the 1999 Pan-American Games in the 10,000 meters and was a member of the 1999 USA Track and Field team that competed in the World Championships in Seville, Spain. Julian, a member of the United States cross country team in 1997 and 1998, has run personal bests of 3:42 in the 1,500 meters, 13:33 in the 5,000-meter race and 28:05 for 10,000 meters.

An Oregon native, Julian was a four-time NCAA Division I all-America at the University of Portland. He graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in communications management.

Julian and his wife, Colleen Glyde, a former all-American distance runner at the University of Colorado, reside in Denver with their son, Wade, dog, Miles, and cat, Boise.
