Metro State Finishes Fourth In RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup

May 14, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - After winning the title last year, Metro State finished fourth in the 2007-08 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Sports Competition Cup with 640 points, the conference office announced.

The cup measures the success of each of the conference's schools throughout the year in four core sports and four wild card sports. Football or men's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball are the core sports. The four wild card sports are two women's and two men's sports, designated by the school's best finishes. The points are calculated based on how the teams finish in the various RMAC tournaments or RMAC postseason play. In events that the conference does not conduct a postseason event, the points are calculated by the final regular-season standings.

Nebraska-Kearney won its 12th cup in the past 13 years, scoring 730 points. Adams State and Fort Lewis tied for second place with 690 points, while Mesa State was fifth with 630 points. The Lopers won RMAC tournament titles in volleyball, women's tennis, wrestling and baseball, while finishing second in men's tennis and women's basketball.

The Roadrunners won the RMAC men's tennis tournament, and won regular-season conference championships in men's soccer, women's soccer and men's tennis.

Nebraska-Kearney will be presented with the cup during the 2008 RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet, July 12.
