Swimming and Diving Win Several Events At Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, COLO. -- Kenny Rhoades set school records in the one- and three-meter dives to lead Metro State in a dual meet against Colorado School of Mines, Saturday afternoon in Golden. The sophomore won both events, posting a score of 503.70 in the one meter and 568.13 in the three meter. He broke his own record in the one meter set last season of 445.35, and also broke D.J. Hummell's 2001 mark of 487.50 in the three meter. As a team, the Orediggers won both dual meets, besting the Roadrunner men, 149-93, and defeating the Metro State women, 123-113. Individually, several individuals had big days in the pool. Evan Venrick won three events, taking first in the 500-yard free (5:16.59), 200-yard free (1:53.91) and the 100-yard free (52.98). Alejandro Hernandez won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.41) and the 200-yard medley (2:11.16), while Kevin Braun won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 58.85. For the women, Lisa Black, Annika Matlock and Jessica Shaddock all won two events. Black took first in the 100 (1:01.87) and 200 (2:16.21) backstroke, while Matlock took gold in the 200-yard butterfly (2:34.01) and the 500-yard free (5:38.83). Shaddock swept the 50- (26.32) and 100-yard (58.75) freestyle races. Laura Michael-Trumbull also won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:36.32. Metro State returns to the pool at Colorado College, Jan. 25-27. |
